About The Project

The Graphics Solutions Team (GST) is a practicum course at Johnson & Wales University. It is specialized for their technology major, Graphic Design and New Media, giving students the opportunity to apply their knowledge to an actual situation. The Graphics Solutions Team is given a series of tasks to accomplish according to a “client’s” specifications, guidelines, and needs. Elizabeth Marks, the founder and instructor of this course, originally designed it to be an opportunity for students to take part in community service projects related to their skills.

We are now working with a class of students at Roger Williams Middle School. Our team began by constructing a power point presentation to teach the students about video and filming. We also create and edited a video of our own to show them. The students were issued disposable video cameras to use after we presented our information and video. They split into small groups and then went out on their own to use them.

When the cameras were returned, we went to visit the class again. We showed them three possible layouts for the website that would display their movies, which they voted on. We also interviewed the students and recorded some more footage. During the next couple of weeks, we edited the videos and created the website. On May 14th, the students from Roger Williams Middle School came to Johnson & Wales campus. We presented the website and showed them their edited movies.
